Philadelphia, July 15, 2016 – City Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District) on Friday released the following statement on a four-year contract agreement between the City of Philadelphia and AFSCME District Council 33:

“The new labor compact with District Council 33 both honors the commitment our workers show on the job every day and represents the interests of taxpayers. This agreement ensures that even lower-wage public employees will have some level of certainty about their ability to support their families and to retire – something American workers across all sectors deserve. In addition, both parties have taken responsible steps toward the sustainability of the pension fund.

“I congratulate DC 33 President Pete Matthews and the Kenney Administration for the good faith and diligence they put into this contract. I am hopeful today marks a new era of peace and earned, mutual respect between the City and the hardworking public servants who keep it running.”
