As part of Newsworks/Plated’s Dishing DNC – a guide to Philadelphia’s vibrant food scene – three Philadelphia City Council members shared their favorite locally owned eateries in a series of videos posted to social media. They’re encouraging all visitors to the city, not just DNC delegates, to seek out the tastes of Philly’s neighborhoods, even those slightly off the beaten path. Not only does this give visitors a broader taste of Philly, choosing small, locally owned restaurants who hire local residents and are part of their communities helps build a stronger city.

Now, on to the food…

Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown (At Large), who serves as Council’s Majority Whip, recommends:

Ms. Tootsies Soul Food Cafe | Map and Directions

Estia | Map and Directions

Like Councilwoman Reynolds Brown, freshman Councilman Derek Green is an At Large member of Council and serves the whole city. He grew up in the Mt. Airy section, however, and would love it if visitors to the city would take a trip up there to experience the flavors of his neighborhood. He recommends:

Chef Ken’s | Map and Directions

Relish |  Map and Directions

McMenamin’s Tavern | Map and Directions

Councilwoman Maria Quiñones-Sanchez represents the city’s vibrant and diverse 7th District and she hopes that visitors to the city will venture out of Center City to experience her neighborhood’s culture, people and food. She recommends:

Isla Verde | Map and Directions

Tierra Colombiana | Map and Directions
