PHILADELPHIA — Today Philadelphia City Councilmember Brian O’Neill joined Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to announce plans to renovate Fitzpatrick Playground (12501 Torrey Rd., Philadelphia, PA, 19154). The approximately $630,000 project will update and modernize aging playground equipment and building features at the 5.2 acre site.

Fitzpatrick Playground is home to a popular after school program and summer camp. Families who visit the site will soon be able to enjoy: updated playground equipment; a new safety surface; a brand new redesigned sprayground; new tree plantings, and additional site seating. The project will also replace the doors and windows in the two-room recreation building on site.

“Fitzpatrick Playground is well loved by the community, and we are excited to see this site come to life with the new amenities our children and families deserve,” said Councilmember Brian O’Neill. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to work alongside residents and Parks & Rec to provide safe, fun recreation facilities here in the 10th District and across the City”

“This announcement is exciting news for the Fitzpatrick staff and community,” said Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell. “Safe, modern places to play make our communities stronger, and give residents a chance to meet new neighbors and connect with old friends. We are so grateful to the civic and community leaders who have made investment in our parks a priority here in the northeast and across the City.”

Construction is expected to begin in late Summer 2022.
