PHILADELPHIA – October 20, 2016 – Donning red Phillies baseball caps with their suits and ties to show their collective team spirit, the members of Philadelphia City Council honored long-time first baseman Ryan Howard at City Hall today.

The resolution, introduced by Councilman Kenyatta Johnson (2nd District) and cosponsored by all members of council, recognizes Howard for:

“Dedication to his adoptive City of Philadelphia has been felt through several charities including Ryan Howard’s Celebrity Servers, his work with the Police Athletic League, the Ryan Howard Family Foundation and the Ryan Howard Big Piece Foundation, which is dedicated to improve the lives of children by promoting academic and athletic development.”

Howard, who was the last member of the 2008 World Series Championship team still with the team, promised that his dedication to the City would not end even though he is no longer taking the field in Phillies pinstripes. “If I’m not here playing in a Phillies uniform, that doesn’t mean I’m finished with my work in the city and around Philadelphia. So my presence will still be felt here in Philadelphia because there’s a lot of work that needs to be done.”
