Vision

A Philadelphia where working families thrive, a city where every neighborhood has:

  • Stable homes that are safe and affordable
  • Strong school communities and ample opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and contribute to the life of our city
  • Clean and welcoming public spaces that make our communities feel safe and vibrant: gardens, parks, libraries, rec centers, bike lanes, and transit stops
  • Accessible healthcare, including treatment for mental health and substance use disorders
  • Jobs that honor the dignity of all workers and allow workers to care for themselves and their families
  • Opportunities for community members to make their voices heard and shape the future of our neighborhoods and our city

Mission

We move toward this vision in four ways:

  1. Legislation: We craft and consider legislation with the input of community and movement groups. We seek to change laws that have made life more difficult for working families and create laws that will uplift working families. We use our position in City Hall to amplify the voices and accomplishments of the working people and movement groups who have been historically barred from the halls of power.
  2. Constituent services: We recognize that many people have lost faith in local government because they have not seen its impact on their lives. We understand that we have a responsibility to show people how government can make their lives better. We strive to solve problems, connect people to services, shed light on the workings of city government, and advocate for constituents as they navigate these spaces.
  3. Community engagement and leadership development: We reach out to community members and community groups to share resources and learn more about Philadelphians’ hopes and challenges. We recognize that we need more leaders who have experienced the impacts of our broken systems, and we create pathways for community members to take leadership in their communities and in our city.
  4. Communications and narrative strategy: We communicate to inform people about opportunities, resources, and problems and to share our work and accomplishments. We also aim to shift the narrative about what’s possible in city government and to raise the bar for what working people can expect from their government. We strive to increase the number of people who know the name Kendra Brooks and associate her name with people power and improvements in the lives of working families.

We measure our success by how much our work improves the lives of working people and how much our work strengthens the movement for working people in Philadelphia.
