  • EDUCATION ADVOCATE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND WORKING FAMILIES

    • Co-sponsor of Paid Sick Leave Legislation
    • Supportsraising Philadelphia’s minimum wage to $15/hour
    • Tax relief for working families who send their children to day-care and early education
    • Saved E.M. Stanton School by creating a partnership with the Goldenberg Group
    • Created the Friends of Bartram Group to combat school violence
    • Held rallies to call for increased school funding in the School District and Harrisburg
    • Established Airport Workforce Advisory Board to make job opportunities for residents
    • Brokered an agreement at the Philadelphia International Airport allowing workers to organize
    • Provided job counseling that resulted in over 300 jobs for constituents and held 6 job fairs with Philly employers

  • PROMOTING SMART DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH PHILLY

    • Fought for the approval of over 100 mixed-income, affordable and senior housing units through partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Innova, the Altman Group, and other affordable housing organizations
    • Partnered with CHOP for a world class public health center, library, and recreation center
    • Passed legislation to redevelop the long blighted Royal Theatre

  • CREATING SAFER NEIGHBORHOODS AND IMPROVING OUR QUALITY OF LIFE

    • Dedicated city funds to clean and clear alleys and trees
    • Authored legislation protecting dogs from the cold weather
    • Passed a bill allowing the city to “Pop the Lock” in order to clean blighted and vacant lots
    •Advocated for the implementation of the Focused Deterrence program
    • Banned 3d Printer Guns and Realistic Toy Guns. Increased fines for the sale of BB Guns to minors
    • Secured funding for the city’s second shelter for victims of domestic violence
    • Held Public Safety walks and Stand Up Man Up events with at-risk youths
    • 10 Quality of Life Tours throughout the district connecting city services and agencies to residents
    • Senior Citizens Health Fairs, Valentine Day and Christmas Brunches
    • Supported the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Pop-Up Garden on South Street

  • Clean and Green

    • Partnered with the Community Life Improvement Program (CLIP) to clean over 3,000 lots between 2012 and 2014
    • Dedicated land for public green space to create the new Carpenter Green Park
    • Supported the Grays Ferry Triangles Park at 23rd and South Streets

  • Investing in our parks and recreation centers

    • $3,000,000 in total funding to 2nd District parks and recreation centers
    • $85,000 to rehab the Ralph Brooks Tot Lot
    • $225,000 to rehab Wharton Square Park Playground
    • $100,000 for a new playground in FDR Park after Arson
    • $15,000 for Guerin Rec. Bocce Courts
    • $500,000 for state of the art fields at Lanier Playground
    • $75,000 for McCreesh Playground’s Skate Park and basketball courts
    • $200,000 for a new tennis court at Barry Rec
    • $50,000 to the Taney Dragons
