Philadelphia, Nov. 3, 2014 – City Council’s Committee of the Whole will conduct public hearings on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, and Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, to explore opportunities to further establish the City of Philadelphia as a regional energy hub.
Members of the public, including representatives of the energy industry, the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), consumer advocacy groups and other interested parties, are invited to submit testimony to the Committee of the Whole.
“City Council has determined that the Nutter Administration’s proposal to sell PGW is too narrowly focused and severely limits opportunities to explore alternative avenues that could be more beneficial to the City in the long term. Council believes that with greater public input and participation, a better future for PGW and the City of Philadelphia is possible,” Council President Darrell L. Clarke said.
“In addition, the reports commissioned by Council this year and by the Administration in 2012 will receive full public consideration. It is our obligation to fully explore Philadelphia’s potential as a major regional energy hub as it relates to jobs and the City’s economic growth. With everyone at the table, Council believes a more economically sound future for PGW, its employees and its customers can be achieved,” Council President Clarke continued.
The Nov. 13th hearing of the Committee of the Whole will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Nov. 14th hearing of the Committee of the Whole will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The hearings will be held in City Council Chambers, Room 400, in City Hall.
