During the first half of 2017, Philadelphia City Council members highlighted the actions and achievements of Philadelphia youth with special citations.
The list of extraordinary young Philadelphians includes:
- Brent “Rudy” Edwards, who was honored by Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. (4th District) for saving his one-year old nephew from a house fire on the morning of Saturday, May 27, 2017.
- The Mastery Charter School North Women’s Basketball Team, who were honored by Councilwoman Cindy Bass (8th District) for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Public League Championship title.
- The Imhotep Charter School Men’s Basketball team, who were honored by Councilwoman Bass for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Public League Championship title.
- Members of the Julia R. Masterman School’s Odyssey of the Mind Team, who were honored by Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District) on being crowned World Finalists in the Odyssey of the Mind International Competition for the fourth straight year.
- Members of the St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls Bowling Team and Cheer-leading Team, who were honored by Councilman Bobby Henon (6th District) for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Catholic League Championship and 2017 National High School Cheer-leading Championship, respectively.
- Father Judge High School students Jack Flynn and Dylan Feby, who were honored by Councilman Henon for their heroic actions on February 7, 2017.
