Report on State of Asian Americans in Philadelphia

Feb. 5, 2014 – Members of Philadelphia City Council were among the officials, community advocates and nonprofit organizations who attended a briefing of a new report, “A Community of Contrasts: Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in the Northeast, 2013,” commissioned by Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

The presentation of the report’s findings was hosted by organizations including Asian Americans United and held at the Philadelphia Center for Architecture in the Chinatown neighborhood of Philadelphia.

In his welcoming remarks, Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District) stressed that importance of civic engagement among Asian Americans to ensure adequate representation in government. Also present at the briefing were Councilman At-Large David Oh, former Councilman At-Large Bill Green (now chairman of the School Reform Commission,  Councilman Jim Kenney, Councilman Mark Squilla (1st District), and School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Dr. William Hite.
