PHILADELPHIA – January 12 – Councilwoman Cindy Bass (8th District) remembers fallen firefighter Lieutenant Matthew LeTourneau.

Today, Philadelphia said goodbye to a fallen hero, Lieutenant Matthew LeTourneau, who sacrificed his life to save the lives of others while battling a fire in a North Philadelphia rowhome. I was honored to be able to remember Lt. LeTourneau’s life during his funeral ceremony today.

Firefighters are some of our city’s bravest citizens. They dive headfirst into the most dangerous situations and dedicate their lives to protecting the livelihoods of others. I know I join all Philadelphia citizens in my appreciation and admiration for Lt. LeTourneau’s heroism and bravery.

Tragically, Philadelphia also lost a citizen in the North Philadelphia rowhome fire that claimed Lt. LeTourneau’s life. I offer my sincerest condolences to the families of Lt. LeTourneau and Delgera Lane, the man who lived in the home. I pray their families and loved ones can somehow find peace during this most difficult time.

Lt. LeTourneau dreamed of being a firefighter as a child, and accomplished his dream by becoming an 11-year veteran of the Fire Department. His devotion to the public safety of our city will be remembered forever.
