Philadelphia, PA June 24, 2022 –Philadelphia City Councilmember (2ndDistrict) released the following written statement today concerning the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe vs. Wade:
“I am extremely disappointed that the U.S, Supreme Court has decided to overturn Roe v. Wade, which has been the established law of the United States for nearly 50 years.
“It is not in the best interest of our nation to make it more difficult for people to have access to an abortion and reproductive health care services if they want one. Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision will once again take our nation back to the bad-old-days of young women having dangerous procedures done to them to have an abortion.
“It is important to note that abortion is still legal in Pennsylvania and here in Philadelphia. The overwhelming majority of Americans and most Pennsylvanians support legal access to abortion, and I am one of them. I am ready to work with my Council colleagues and Mayor Jim Kenney to do everything possible to protect abortion rights in Pennsylvania and for the residents of Philadelphia. “
