PHILADELPHIA, January 22, 2019 – Late Tuesday morning, Councilmember Derek S. Green (At-Large) – who also chairs the Philadelphia Gas Commission – released a statement in support in of the efforts of The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) to assist customers who are currently struggling to or unable to pay their bills due to the month-long partial government shutdown. This comes on the heels of Mayor Jim Kenney’s announcement on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day that City agencies would step in to help federal workers in Philadelphia in any way they can:

“As chair of the Philadelphia Gas Commission, I applaud PGW and the other City agencies for providing some peace of mind (regardless of how small) and flexibility to our citizens who are not receiving paychecks because of the disappointing inaction in Washington, D.C.,” said Councilmember Green. “It’s unfathomable that so much childish behavior by those who should be leading our country forward and setting a positive global example, is causing so much distress and pain for so many of our fellow Americans.”
