PHILADELPHIA, December 13, 2018 – Ahead of the start of City Council’s winter recess, Councilmember Derek S. Green (At-Large) set forth a call to action for the City’s Committee on Commerce and Economic Development to hold hearings for the creation of an independent fiscal office for the City of Philadelphia.
Following a precedent already set on both the federal and state level – the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania having established its own Independent Fiscal Office in 2010 – Councilmember Green introduced a resolution that permits the Committee to hold hearings on the rationale – to consider the importance of having a neutral third-party conduct assessments of the fiscal impact of policy initiatives.
“As legislators and representatives of the people, the onus is on us to put measures in place that will help us to be the most responsible stewards of public dollars as possible, especially given the finite amount of resources available,” said Councilmember Green.
Hearings will be scheduled for some time in 2019. The full resolution is available to view here.
