(PHILADELPHIA) May 13, 2021 – In response to the resignation of Dr. Thomas Farley, Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson (At Large)  released the following statement:

“I am appalled by the complete and utter disregard for the victims and families of the MOVE bombing. My thoughts and prayers are with the members of the Africa family as they must not only deal with this horrible anniversary, but now another atrocity committed by the City against them and their loved ones.

“The City can never truly make up for the murder of eleven of its citizens, but we must do everything we can to atone and not revictimize the families. At every turn, we have failed the Africa family, and it cannot continue. We will not accept this disregard for Black lives, Black bodies, and Black families. We must do the hard work to dismantle the institutions and systems that allowed this to happen and to remain hidden since 2017. We must do the work to make sure this never happens again.”
