COUNCILMAN JOHNSON HOSTS RENAMING OF 2200 BLOCK OF WINTON ST AS “WILD BILL WAY”

PHILADELPHIA – January 16, 2016 – Councilman Kenyatta Johnson (2nd District) unveiled the street sign for the 220 block of Winton Street, between Snyder Avenue and Jackson Street, as “Wild Bill Way” in recognition of Wold War II Veteran Bill Guarnere’s pure dedication to fellow man, love for the City of Philadelphia, as well as his heroism and willingness to sacrifice all for his country. A Philadelphia native, Guarnere  was a member of the 101st Airborne Division’s “Screaming Eagles.”

Guarnere was portrayed in the HBO mini-series “Band of Brothers.”

Also in attendance for the event were members of the Guarnere family, including Bill Guarnere’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; Councilman David Oh (At-Large), State Senator Anthony Williams, (D-8)
State Rep. Jordan Harris, (D-186) and Scott C. Brown, Director of the City’s Veterans Advisory Commission.
