Today City Council recognized and honored Philadelphia’s newest boxing celebrity, Danny “Swift” Garcia. A 24 year old native of the Juanita neighborhood, Danny has taken the boxing world by storm on his way to an undefeated 25 – 0 record, and string a of stunning knockouts of en route to the light welterweight title.
The resolution, introduced by Councilwoman Maria D. Quinones Sanchez, and co-sponsored by Councilman Curtis Jones praised Danny for his dedication, humility, and quintessential Philly toughness.
“When my opponents look at me, and they know I’m from Philadelphia, they know they are in for a real fight” Danny said.
Councilwoman Sanchez, also praised Danny for his commitment to family, and the tremendous generosity his is showing in his community. He has already created a foundation, he is contributing to a new playground in Juanita, and is working to open a youth boxing gym. “He’s a great example to our young people, and shows how far commitment and dedication can take you. I am so proud of everything he is accomplishing” Said Councilwoman Sanchez.
