PHILADELPHIA, March 13, 2020 – Philadelphia City Council President Darrell L. Clarke today issued the following statement in response to the death of veteran Philadelphia Police Department Corporal James O’Connor this morning in the City’s Frankford section:

“Corporal O’Connor was a 26-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, a member of the SWAT unit, and a member of a family that has dedicated their lives to service. Today I join the Mayor, the members of City Council, Commissioner Outlaw, and all Philadelphians in sending our deepest condolences and prayers to the O’Connor family and to the Corporal’s friends and colleagues in the Philadelphia Police Department.”

“The death of Cpl. O’Connor is a somber reminder of the risks our first responders undertake when they report for duty and the sacrifices they make for the safety of all Philadelphians.”

“This morning’s tragedy is also a reminder that every life ended by gun violence diminishes us all. We can honor Cpl. O’Connor, his career, and his sacrifice by continuing all possible efforts in reducing this epidemic of violence in our city.”
