Philadelphia, September 6, 2017 Philadelphia City Councilman David Oh (At-Large) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement that he will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

DREAMers grew up among us, share our values, attend our schools, contribute to our communities, strengthen our economy and serve in our military.

I supported the goals of DACA and continue to do so. Now that it has been announced that DACA will be discontinued, I encourage Congress to work in a bi-partisan manner to enact legislation that will enable DREAMers to remain permanently in the United States.

Due to the significant worry and uncertainty resulting from the announcement that DACA will be discontinued, I respectfully request that the President and Congress quickly announce a process that assures DREAMers that they will be able to remain here with temporary legal status should Congress fail to pass a more permanent legislative solution within the six-month period.
