Philadelphia, March 9, 2017 – City Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District) on Thursday named Councilman Derek Green (At-Large), Commerce Director Harold T. Epps, and the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia (The Chamber) President and CEO Rob Wonderling co-chairs of the Special Committee on Regulatory Review and Reform.

The Special Committee was authorized following introduction of a resolution by Council President Clarke and Councilman Green on February 23, 2017. The Special Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the 2,016-page Philadelphia Code, identify outdated and confusing regulations, and recommend legislative and administrative remedies to enhance the City’s regulatory environment to benefit businesses and residents.

“As a former small business owner, I’m focused on encouraging job growth and strengthening commercial corridors throughout our City,” Councilman Green said. “I am honored to co-chair the Special Committee on Regulatory Reform, and look forward to making Philadelphia an even better place to start, grow, and attract businesses.”

“As Commerce Director, my goal is to serve as an advocate for the business community within City government,” Epps said. “I look forward to working with my fellow co-chairs and other members of the Special Committee on Regulatory Review and Reform to address the concerns we’ve heard. My hope is that we can identify ways to simplify processes, reduce burdens, and take the necessary steps to make Philadelphia an even better place to do business.”

“Philadelphia can achieve its full economic potential if there is good-faith collaboration between the business community and City government,” Wonderling said. “I thank Council President Clarke and Councilman Green for this innovative approach to strengthening Philadelphia’s economy. I am honored to serve on the Special Committee on Regulatory Review and Reform, where I will advocate for a cleaner regulatory environment on behalf of The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia and its members.”

“Creating a stronger economy is the best strategy for reducing crime, lowering individual tax burdens, and improving the quality life in every neighborhood and on every block. Cleaning up Philadelphia’s regulatory structure is vitally important to supporting local business growth and job creation,” Council President Clarke said. “I thank Councilman Green, Commerce Director Epps, and The Chamber’s Rob Wonderling for lending their time and expertise to the Special Committee on Regulatory Review and Reform and its important work ahead.”

Appointment of the full Special Committee on Regulatory Review and Reform and a meeting schedule will be announced in the near future.
