PHILADELPHIA – September 22, 2016 – During the City Council Session on Thursday September 22, 2016, Councilwoman Maria Quiñones Sánchez (7th District) will recognize Philly’s own Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez in a presentation celebrating his career and his victory to become the new UFC Lightweight Champion.
Born to a Puerto Rican and Irish family in Kensington, Eddie attended Northeast Catholic High School where he was a two-time National Prep All-American wrestler and placed 6th at the 2000 and 2001 National Prep School Wrestling Championships.
In his 13 years of MMA fighting, Alvarez has amassed an impressive 28-4 record along with two Bellator Lightweight titles, an MFC Welterweight Championship title, and a Reality Fighting Welterweight Championship title.

Councilwoman Sánchez said, “I love when kids from the neighborhood grow up and bring home championships! We are so happy to have this opportunity to celebrate with Eddie and recognize his fantastic career and this great achievement.”
