COUNCILWOMAN GYM CALLS ON GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ACT QUICKLY ON GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL FUNDING PLAN

PHILADELPHIA — February 9, 2016 – Today, Councilwoman Helen Gym (At Large) released the following statement in response to Governor Tom Wolf’s budget address:

“Governor Wolf was elected with a mandate to increase funding for public education. The fact that he has to propose a new budget before last year’s full budget is complete is an embarrassment for our state legislature. Pennsylvania remains one of the only states without a funding formula and ranks at the bottom of the nation in terms of the extreme funding gap between the poorest and wealthiest districts. For five years, local communities have borne the brunt of Harrisburg’s madness. It’s time for the legislature to act swiftly and without delay on the Governor’s school funding proposal.”
