Tuesday, October 25, 2016 – The State Senate of Pennsylvania unanimously confirmed Governor Tom Wolf’s nomination of Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. (4th District) to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

With a broad range of skills and experience, City Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. has the breadth and depth of knowledge needed to act as a public liaison, establish policies, and resolve cases that are not settled voluntarily.  Additionally, he will advocate for legislation and budget considerations that would complement Governor Wolf’s priorities of equal access and remove barriers to inclusion.

Curtis Jones, Jr. is City Councilman for the 4th District of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which represents approximately 150,000 citizens – a position he has held since 2008. Currently in his third term, Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. is Chairman of Public Safety, Commerce & Economic Development and Vice Chair for Parks and Recreation & Cultural Affairs.  Councilman Jones, currently serves on Governor Wolf’s Crime and Delinquency Commission, the Criminal Justice Advisory Board (CJAB), Chairman of Public Safety Committee, and Co-Chair of Council’s Special Committee on Criminal Justice Reform.

In addition, Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. served as the Director of the Minority Business Enterprise Corporation (MBEC) from 1987-1990 under the appointment of Mayor Wilson Goode, Sr., and was a Co-founder of the African American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ & DE.

A noted expert on community-based economic development, Councilman Jones has served in various public and private sector positions for more than two decades. Under his leadership, minority, women and disabled business entities have received more than five hundred and eighty-three million ($583,000,000) in municipal contract opportunities.
