Philadelphia, Oct. 15, 2018 – City Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District) on Monday issued the following statement on Pennsylvania State Rep. Mike O’Brien (Legislative District 175), who passed away earlier this morning:

“Rep. Mike O’Brien was a great neighbor, advocate, and friend. Mike embodied everything that public service is about – helping people who need help, never expecting anything in return along the way. Despite his health struggles, this loss feels way too soon, and I join Mike’s family, friends, and constituents in mourning.

“Mike and I go back to the days when we were staffers, navigating bureaucracies and doing our best to help people in need. That experience makes some future politicians cynical – but not Mike. Mike never lost his impatience for progress and change, and in recent years, I have appreciated watching him fight with passion for Philadelphians on the Pennsylvania House floor. Rest easy, Mike – you really deserve it.”
