Philadelphia, Nov. 11, 2015 City Council President Darrell L. Clarke issued the following statement on Mayor-Elect Jim Kenney’s appointment of First Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross as the next Philadelphia Police Commissioner:

“Richard Ross is the best choice, hands down, to succeed Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey as the leader of the Philadelphia Police Department. I congratulate Mayor-Elect Jim Kenney on making a wise appointment, and I thank Richard Ross for accepting this awesome responsibility to and for the City of Philadelphia.

“Richard is an outstanding public servant, role model, and citizen of the community. He is incredibly responsive to the communities he serves, and I know that he will continue to elevate the Department’s relationships with neighborhoods across the city. As a native Philadelphian and graduate of our public schools, Richard is uniquely qualified to understand the complexities of crime and the need to reform our criminal justice system. I am confident he will build on the fine work of Commissioner Ramsey and make Philadelphia a national model for effective and humane community policing.”
