Philadelphia, Nov. 13-14, 2014 – City Council’s Committee of the Whole held two days of public hearings to explore opportunities to further establish the City of Philadelphia as a regional energy hub. Members of the public, including representatives of the energy industry, the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), consumer advocacy groups and other interested parties testified before City Council.

After reviewing the Nutter Administration’s plan to sell PGW to a Connecticut-based corporation, City Council produced a report on next steps. Testimony from the hearings will be considered as City Council deliberates how to best maximize commercial opportunities for PGW, service and safety for PGW customers, and the City’s role as the No. 1 economic engine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
