PHILADELPHIA – March 6, 2017 – Philadelphia City Council President Darrell L. Clarke (5th District) and Councilwoman Helen Gym (At Large) will join with the Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable and Fox 29 to present a live #FAFSAThon from City Hall on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. This event is designed to connect parents of college-bound students and adults seeking higher education with experts who can offer guidance through the often confusing process of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

FAFSA completion is important because the U.S. Department of Education uses the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for federal student aid, including low-cost loans, grants, and work-study. The FAFSA may also determine eligibility for state and school-based aid as well. Anyone who plans to attend college should submit a FAFSA.

The Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable has set a goal of increasing FAFSA completion among Philadelphians seeking higher education as a key strategy in making college more affordable to low-income populations, increasing degree completion, and improving rates of job placement and job stability.

At Tuesday’s event, a team of trained financial aid experts will take phone calls to answer questions about the college financial aid process. Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia will be broadcasting the event live from City Hall from 7am to 10am.
